Sallye Elaine Jenkins Sapp

Obituary Date: Wednesday, June 16, 2021

Sallye Elaine Jenkins Sapp was born on July 1, 1950. She transition to her heavenly home on June 16, 2021 at the Emory Saint Joseph Hospital Atlanta Georgia. Sallye was the youngest of five daughters born to the late Elmer and Lucille Sutton Jenkins. 

Sallye grew up at Saint Paul AME church and later joined St. John Baptist Church where she sang with the Angelic Voices Choir. 

Sallye graduated from EE Butler High School and attended Spelman College. She graduated from Brenau University with a BA Degree in Psychology. During her professional career, she worked at the Department of Family and Children Services as a case worker in Child Protective Services, Georgia Legal Services (Gainesville and Atlanta offices) and later became a Certified Paralegal. In her other employment endeavors she worked for the Hall County Sheriffs Department and the Atlanta Housing Authority. 

Sallye was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. And was a charter member of the Lambda Iota Omega graduate chapter of Gainesville Georgia. 

Sallye loved to crochet and cook. She wasn’t necessarily a country cook, but she enjoyed gourmet cooking.  Her kitchen cabinets are full of herbs and spices for her many gourmet dishes.  Even Jasmeen’s school lunches were packed with fresh fruits and veggies, cream cheese dips and lots of love. Family dinners were made better with her punch bowl cake, sweet potato soufflé, warm asparagus salad, green beans with leeks and duck inside of a turkey???????? 

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Lucille Jenkins and two sisters Barbara Jean Jenkins and Willie Frances Jenkins Meadows. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband William P. Sapp Jr., her daughter, Jasmeen Alexander Sapp, three bonus children, Benzia M. Sapp, Melissa J. Sapp (Dewayne) Wright, William P. (Sheree) Sapp, III; one grandson Darian J. Willis Jr., two sisters Patricia Jenkins Devoe and Joyce Jenkins (George) Rucker, two sister-in-laws Tonya Sapp Collins and Frances Sapp Elder and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

The Visitation for Mrs. Sapp will be held will be held Wednesday June 23, 2021 at the hour of 11am at St. John Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life will be held following the visitation at 12 noon. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
