Mary "Frances" Ravan Rider

Mrs. Mary "Frances" Ravan Rider, age 90, of White and Lumpkin Counties, passed away on June 7, 2021. She was born in White County on November 27, 1930 to the late Jim and Nannie Ravan. Frances was most well known for her restaurant in the 60's and 70's, Mountain View Restaurant, located in the Turners Corner Community of Cleveland, Georgia. It is now under new ownership and is currently known as JR's BBQ & Ribs. Her famous cooking was not confined to the walls of that building. Her home was also known by many as a place to gather for great food as well as love, compassion, support, and great life advice. She was loved and well respected by all that were fortunate enough to know her.

Frances was the last living member of Corinth Baptist Church and at 90 years old she was still maintaining the cemetery and taking care of the church building. Most of Frances' family is buried in the church cemetery, giving Frances one more reason to dedicate so much of her heart to Corinth.     

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Gary, Clyde, Oscar, Earl, Morris, and Bobby; sisters, Carrie and Betty; and son, Scott D. Rider. 

She is survived by numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren as well as many other friends and relatives all of whom she loved very much. 

It was Frances' wishes to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Corinth Baptist Church, 18 Corinth Church Road, Cleveland, Georgia 30528 with the Rev. Michael Wilkes officiating. A life tribute will be held immediately following the celebration of life at JR's BBQ & Ribs (formally Mountain View Restaurant), 15220 Highway 19 North, Cleveland, Georgia 30528 (706) 219-4302.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of Frances to Corinth Church, (for maintenance) 2045 Emory Stephens Road, Murrayville, Georgia 30564 or to the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office or to the American Red Cross.
