Henry George Moore, Sr.

Obituary Date: Monday, June 14, 2021

Mr. Henry George Moore, Sr., 88, of Dawsonville (formally of Cumming) passed peacefully into Heaven's realm surrounded by the loving care of his five children and their Mother on Monday June 14th, 2021 at the Seasons Hospice And Palliative Care Center in Cumming Ga.

Mr. Moore was born May 1st, 1933 to the late Harris W and Edith Ingram Moore.  He was a lifelong resident of Forsyth and Dawson Counties and was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Ms. Christine Moore, Ms. Bette Anne Moore, and his second wife of 23 years Mrs. Betty Thomas Moore.

Henry grew up just a stone’s throw away from the downtown square in Cumming and was a 1950 graduate of the old Cumming High School.  He went on to the University Of North Georgia in Dahlonega as an ROTC cadet, and then on to Georgia State in Atlanta.  After college, he faithfully served his country as a Sargent in the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1956.  After his military service, he enjoyed a 50+ year career in the automotive sales and service profession with several companies including Gulf Service Stations, Otwell Ford Motor Company, and Billy Howell Ford in Cumming.  Henry was a lifelong car enthusiast, and was an avid and loyal fan of NASCAR and Bill Elliot.  He and his late wife Betty were charter members of Cumming Baptist Church.

He is survived by his three loving daughters, two sons, and their families: Gail Johnson (Richard), Dawsonville; Rhonda Mason (Daryl), Alpharetta; Jennifer Jordan (Steve), Alpharetta; Henry Moore Jr (Kathy), Hoschton; and Harry Moore (Paula), Cumming.  He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and their families: Alex Johnson (Lindsay), Ashley Johnson, Christina Hyder (Joel), Taylor Mason, Tanner Mason, Abby Jordan, Andrew Jordan, Jeremy Moore (Jordan), Jordan Moore, BreAnna Kitchens (Blake), Jacob Hansen, Will Moore, and the crowning glories of his life, his eleven precious great-grandchildren: Shane and Eric Johnson, Callie Hyder, Ruthie, Lydia, Micah, Jonah, Eli, and Lux Moore, Brantley and Nora Lynn Kitchens.  Not until recently did he ever miss attending a single birth event or one of these little one’s birthday parties.  As well, Henry leaves behind a large number of many treasured cousins and cherished life-long friends. He loved life, family, and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

The Moore family would like to greatly thank the wonderful and dedicated staff at the Northside Forsyth Hospital and Seasons Hospice And Palliative Care Center for their loving care and attention provided to our Father during these recent weeks.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Ingram’s Funeral Home with Mr. Henry Moore Jr, Rev. Jeremy Moore, and Rev. Blake Kitchens officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens in Cumming Ga.

The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Thursday, June 17, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Henry always enjoyed eating with friends at the Waffle House (especially the one in Dawsonville).  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please enjoy a meal at your local Waffle House and leave your waitress a big tip in his memory.
