Reba Shields Henderson, 87, of Gainesville, GA passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 after an extended battle with Dementia.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter Robert (Bob) Henderson, and their three sons; Larry and Debbie Henderson (Hiram, GA), David and BetsAnn Henderson (Collierville, TN), and Greg and Teresa Henderson (Gainesville, GA); three grandchildren; Jake (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Sarah, and Kate (Gainesville, GA), and one sister; Sylvia Shields Murphey (Sumner, MS).
Reba was born September 13, 1933, in Columbus, GA to Lawrence and Reba Meadows Shields. She graduated from the University of Alabama before marrying Bob on June 19, 1955. She earned a Master’s of Education from Georgia State University while teaching 2nd grade at Britt David Elementary School, where she retired after 25 faithful years. In Columbus, she and her family enjoyed being members of Morningside Baptist Church, and she was a devoted choir member. After retiring, Reba volunteered at St. Francis Memorial Hospital.
Upon moving to Gainesville, to be near family, she became an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church and the Golden Nuggets Sunday School Class.
Reba loved anything to do with her family; including holiday meals, watching college football, and especially trips to the beach.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 pm Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Lakewood Baptist Church with a visitation to follow at the church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 18, 2021 at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.
