Lynn McDonnell

Obituary Date: Monday, June 14, 2021

Born 8-17-1943 in Neshoba County, Mississippi and died 6-10-2021 in Braselton, Georgia.

Lynn McDonnell passed away 6-10-2021, after a sudden illness, to join her family and friends in God’s kingdom. She was born to Clay Houston and Ozell Dearing. The youngest of 6 children, she had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Billy, Jimmy, Jarrell, Joanne, and Patsy were her siblings. All preceded her in death and were waiting on her arrival. Lynn was married to Maurice F. McDonnell and had 2 sons. Maurice (Mark) F. McDonnell Jr. and Anthony (Tony) Evan McDonnell. She leaves behind her son Mark, daughter-in-law, Jean; her son, Tony; grandchildren, Mark Missy Joshua, and Ian; and great-granddaughter, RaeLynn Grace.

Lynn attended Clark Baptist College, Jacksonville State University, and graduated from Emory University. Working multiple jobs while raising a family, Lynn obtained her certification as a Respiratory Therapy Technician in 1976. She went to work immediately at Crawford Long Hospital, which is now Emory Univeristy Hospital Midtown, and was there about 10 years. She worked a short stint with visiting nurses and then was hired by a small company called Oxy+Plus. Owned by Steve Elrod, he was not only her boss, he soon became her friend, mentor, confidante, occasional accomplice, and a person she absolutely adored.

Lynn went to work for Oxy+Plus and her purpose in life, apart from her family, was found. As marketing director, she helped the Oxy+Plus team build into the THE Premier Durable Medical Equipment and Respiratory Home Care company in and around Atlanta. As the tagline read, “Simply the Best” and oh so true it was. Lynn was SO proud of the Oxy+Plus family and, like all who worked there, had a burning desire to be the absolute best at providing patient care and service. She loved and was loved by all. She retired from Superior Oxygen Services in 2010.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. Gardening, Goodwill shopping, rummage sales, garage sales, and as of late, buying everything under the sun for RaeLynn. She was able to spend a lot of time with her family and for that we will be forever grateful. She will be so terribly missed but knowing she is with her Heavenly Father and Heavenly Family bring a great comfort to us all. Her determination, dedication, drive, humor, and love serves us as an example of the way she would want to be emulated.

She asked that laughter, stories, and the celebration of her life be the centerpiece of a simple memorial service. We will mourn her loss but she wanted us all to remember that she has gone home to the Lord, her savior.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Memorial Park South Chapel. Pastor Blue Bryan will officiate.
