Richard John Becker

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 6, 2021
Mr. Richard John Becker, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021.

Mr. Becker was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 24, 1942 to the late James Edward and Reba Sawyer Becker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Tom Becker. Richard has lived in Lumpkin County for the past 42 years. He and his wife began growing tomatoes and then eventually built greenhouses. This gave them the opportunity to open their business, Perennial Gardens.

In his younger days Richard raced Porsches and Jaguars, all while developing courage and strength. The courage he would need to bravely battle Parkinson's Disease. Woodworking was Richard's passion and like most men he loved hot rods and fishing. For Richard, his greatest achievement was being able to establish the Etowah Valley Game Preserve and Sporting Clays Park with his sons, who now run the business. He was always willing to give a helping hand and advice when needed. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce Becker; sons Alex Becker and Phillip Becker, all of Dahlonega; sister Carol Marie Purvis, Texas; brothers Dan Becker, Utah and Mike Becker, North Carolina; sister Patty Greer, Alabama; brother Paul Becker, Ireland; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Etowah Valley Game Preserve and Sporting Clays Park, 619 Sporting Hills Drive, Dawsonville, GA 30534.
