Virginia Hill Hopkins, age 102, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021.
Virginia Hill Hopkins was born on June 20, 1918 in Maysville, Georgia, the eldest daughter and last surviving child of eight born to Daisy (Tolbert) and Howard Hill, Sr. She was a graduate of Maysville High School and Toccoa Falls College. In 1945, she married David Jackson Hopkins, Jr., and together they resided in Gainesville. Virginia worked with the Ford Motor Company and with Standard Feed Mill. She was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street for 76 years.
She dearly loved all of her family, her church, her home, and her many friends. Always gentle and kind, she was a pure joy to be around. She was a wonderful cook, and she enjoyed singing and laughing.
Surviving her are her son, Benjie Hopkins and his wife Marsha; grandsons, Boone (Chandra), Mayes (Lauren), Ethan, and Isaac (Hannah); and great-grandsons, Owen, Jack, and Henry. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Charles House, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia’s memory may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 404 Washington Street Gainesville, GA 30501.
A graveside burial will take place on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 10:30 am at Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville, GA. There will be a 2:00 pm memorial service at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Gainesville. Reverend Rick Maeser will officiate. Visitation will be held following the memorial service.
