Joyce Ann Ivey Corley, age 74 of Gainesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Gardens of Gainesville Assisted Living following an extended illness.
Joyce was born January 28, 1946 in Lumberton, NC to Lester and Inez Harrelson Ivey. She was the youngest of three daughters and lived her youth in Rowland, NC where she attended Roberstone County Schools. Joyce also attended the Rowland United Methodist Church. She attended Pembroke State College and Wesleyan College where she gained a BS degree in Psychology. Joyce was certified in early Education and taught Kindergarten and Third Grade in Rocky Mountain, NC.
Joyce married Mike Joyner and had one child, Stephanie Joyner. She moved to Clermont, Georgia and owned and operated the Clermont Hotel. Joyce resumed her teaching career at Wauka Mountain Elementary after receiving her Master’s Degree at North Georgia College and later retired from Mount Vernon Elementary. Her strength as a teacher was her commitment to the students. Joyce always developed special activities such as plays, musicals, etc. so that students could develop talents. She was a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.
Joyce married John Corley in 1994 and after retirement has enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. She is survived by her husband, John Corley, her daughter & son-in-law, Stephanie and John Kinsey, her step-sons, Brooks and Laura Corley, Ben and Leigh Corley and Brian Corley and grandchildren, Luke Kinsey, Mark Kinsey, Caroline Kinsey, Meredith Corley, Brooke Corley, Ethan Corley and Bowen Corley. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Frank Adam, sister, Janice Ivey and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 on Friday, May 28, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Reverend John Kinsey will officiate. Interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to C.O.M.E.T. Class of First United Methodist Church.
