William David Johnson was born on April 7, 1953, in Gainesville Georgia to the late William Johnson and Mamie Thompson Johnson. He transitioned from this life on Wednesday May 26, 2021, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. David attended the local schools within the Gainesville School System. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1971 and from there entered various trades. Mr. Johnson was employed with Chicopee for 18 years and Wrigley’s for 16 years until his retirement. In addition to William working at Chicopee for 18 years, he also enjoyed baking and cooking for his family. He loved to joke with people, and we will never forget the nicknames that he affectionately called us every time we saw him. As a dedicated member of St. Paul United Methodist Church on Summit St, David served on the usher board, he served faithfully until his health began to fail. In 1991 David joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life Toni Tate and to this union 4 children were born. William David was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mamie Johnson, a brother, Larry Johnson and a sister, Sherry Johnson. Loving memories of David are cherished by his wife of 31 years, Toni Johnson; Daughters; Mechee Johnson, Deisha (Tony) Stephens, Sherry “Nicole” (Andrew) Wright; A Son, David “Nicholas” (Gisela) Johnson; Siblings; Sandra Haley, Gail Harrison; Nephews; Greg Haley, Brian (Nina) Haley, Ashley (Bianca) Harrison, Todd Harrison, 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a special great-nephew Kaiden Brantley, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Saint John Baptist Church, 757 EE Butler Parkway, Gainesville, GA at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Wimberly Funeral Home between the hours of 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
