Joyce Eileen Kennedy passed from this life peacefully on the morning of May 15, 2021 at her home in Grayson, GA.
She was born on December 24, 1930 to the late Robert Richard Austin and the late Minnie Myrtle Austin in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
She had two siblings who preceded her in death. Lloyd Towery of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Edward Towery of Conroe, Texas.
At the age of 9 Joyce attended a tent revival meeting led by Aimee Semple McPherson where she first became a Christian and felt God’s call on her life.
In 1945, she met her first husband, Alvin Henry Eaton in San Antonio, Texas where he was stationed in the US Army Medical Corp. Their first child, Sharon Eileen, was born in 1948 in Dalhart, Texas.
Their desire to serve God led them into ministerial roles over the next years in the Assemblies of God Church. They were called to pioneer a church in Thornton, Colorado where their second child, Alvin Richard, was born.
Over their pastorates at Byers, TX, Mannford, Oklahoma and Conroe, TX., Joyce learned to play piano, discovered her talented singing voice and other talents for the ministry.
As time passed, and circumstances changed their relationship, Joyce built a successful business in women’s retail clothing, Insurance and Real Estate. In 1997 she moved to Alpharetta, GA to be near her children.
Joyce became the grandmother of four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
In 2001 Joyce retired and settled into a less strenuous life. During this period, she made many new friends and enjoyed the support from many through her membership in the First Baptist Church of Alpharetta, GA. 2015 marked a significant beginning to her decline in health. She endured for another six years until her passing at age 90. In her last few days with us on earth she was comforted by her friends and family until the very end and passed over to her reward very much at peace and without pain.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Sawnee View Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday the hour prior to the service.
