James Daniel Conner

Obituary Date: Monday, May 17, 2021

James Daniel Conner, beloved husband of Margie Catherine (Smith) Conner, passed away at his home on Monday, May 17th, after a brief illness. Jim, known affectionately as Danny, was born in Etowah, TN on March 8th, 1946 where he attended school and played in the creeks of the Appalachian Mountains. Jim earned the honor of Eagle Scout and pursued a career in the Navy.  He retired after 21 years of active service to marry the love of his life whom he was introduced by his close friend Dan, Margie’s brother. He went on to pursue a career with Atlanta Casualty/Infinity after marrying Margie and blending their families together. He enjoyed reading, spouting historical facts, talking politics, sharing his quick wit and dry humor.  He loved his wife, cherished her immensely, played upon her naïve nature, and supported her in any and every possible way. He doted on his grandkids with a healthy dose of a hard time to keep them from being “soft.” He will be missed immensely, while the memories and stories will live on through his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margie Smith Conner, brother Jim (Bobby) Conner of Fayetteville, AR, sister Betty Lou (Liz) Colley of Draper, Utah, sons John (Jennifer) Conner of Providence, Utah, and Jeremy (Wendy) McGinnis of Dawsonville, daughters Sharon Faye (Jason) Vazquez of Cumming, Tracie Conner of Bangor, Maine, and Amy (Jason) McGehee of Columbia Falls, MT, in addition to numerous grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Minnie Conner and his brother Billy Conner.

Services will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church in Gainesville, GA on Thursday, June 3rd, at 4 PM in the celebration center with graveside interment to follow. Services will be available online at https://boxcast.tv/view/jim-conner-celebration-of-life-854053 for those unable to attend in person.
