Melinda Burrell Lassiter

Melinda Burrell Lassiter, age 82, of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the funeral home prior to the service.

Mrs. Lassiter was a graduate of South Habersham High School, Cornelia, Class of 1957. Her first job was working half day at Habersham County Medical Center, Demorest, Ga. while still in High School, under the DECA program. She also received an Associates Degree at Piedmont College in Demorest.

After moving to Atlanta, she worked as a stenographer at the Psychiatric Dept. at Emory University Hospital. Then she worked as the secretary for L.C. Buchan, M.D.,General Surgeon for 13 years. The next job was with Nolan M. Lassiter M.D.P.C. as his Office Manager for 41 years.

While Melinda was working in Atlanta, she met Noan M. Lassiter, M.D.P.C. and they were married on August 29,1987 in a garden wedding and reception held at Williamsburg Apts. in Decatur, Ga. Melinda and Nolan loved traveling over the United States and many foreign countries including Kenya, E. Africa where they participated in 16 mission trips through the years.

After Melinda's parents passed away, she and Nolan purchased her parents' homeplace on Foster Street in Cornelia, remodeled it and used it as their retirement home. They retired in July, 2016.

Melinda was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia. She was a very kind, gentle, and caring person, who always had a beautiful smile on her face for everyone.

Melinda was preceded in death by her parents, Effie and Glenn Burrell, her brothers, G. B. Burrell, Hoyt Burrell and Dewey Burrell, her sisters, Carria Esterline, Kathleen Campbell,Irene Rousey, and Moleen Gaston.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Nolan M. Lassiter, M.D.P.C., her step-daughter Suzanne Lassiter ONeil (Kevin), her step-sons, Nolan M. Lassiter, Jr. M.D., (Annie), David H. Lassiter, Doctor of Psychology, (Sharan) and John M. Lassiter. Also she is survived by her brother, Roscoe Burrell, her sister, Eloise Burrell Smith, and a sister-in-law, Isabelle Burrell, her step grandchildren, Winston ONeil, Preston ONeil, Nolan E. Lassister, M.D., Sam Lassiter, Max Lasiter, Sarah Lassiter, and D. Michael Lassiter. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who loved her very much.
