Ranell Hall Sailors

Obituary Date: Sunday, April 25, 2021

Ranell Hall Sailors passed away at her home on Sunday, April 25, 2021. She was an amazing wife to Jim and dedicated mother of her two sons- Richard and Stephen.

Ranell was very artistic and used her ability to create a variety of works that honored Jesus and blessed others. She and Jim led many outdoor expeditions for both sons and their friends to Sapelo Island and on river rafting and camping trips. During the summers, her family enjoyed yearly visits to Joni and Friends family retreats where she enjoyed precious friendships.

For 30 years, she volunteered in the special needs ministry and preschool Sunday school. She helped start support groups for parents of children with disabilities while actively learning better ways to help people living with special needs- especially the non-verbal.

Throughout her life, she continued to find ways to share her faith and encourage those around her including her friends and parents of her sons’ friends. Even while she battled several illnesses, she shared her faith with nurses, doctors and therapists. She could not stop talking about Jesus.

She was born in High Point, North Carolina and lived as a child in Martinsville, VA then Brunswick and Decatur, GA where she graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School. During her summers in Georgia, she loved trips back to Virginia to visit her cousins.

She went on to graduate with an Associate Degree from Truett McConnell College and a Bachelor Degree in Education from Tift College. She attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary then worked as a teacher and church secretary in New Orleans. She eventually moved to back Georgia where she taught Middle school in Rockdale County for several years until she married Jim Sailors in 1979. After the birth of their first son, she became a full-time mother and homemaker.

Ranell is survived by her husband of 42 years Jim Sailors, her sons Steve Sailors and Richard Sailors and daughter in law Sade Sailors.

A service honoring her life will be held Sunday afternoon May 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Christ Place Church, 3428 Atlanta Hwy, Flowery Branch, GA.

In lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Joni and Friends North Carolina, 616-A Mathews-Mint Hill Road, Mathews, NC 28105.
