On April 13, 2021, Jack Bell Alley of Tiger, Georgia passed over all his favorite fishing holes on lakes Rabun, Yonah and Burton on his way to the heavenly lakes of Glory. Jack was born on January 6, 1932 to the late Jable and Elizabeth Alley. Jack was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his son, David Ellis Alley; his granddaughter Katie Lucinda Alley; his great- grandson Isaiah David Powell; his brothers Harry, Bud, Gene, Claude and Bill Alley; and his sisters, Betty Emory, Myrtle Fisher and Ellie Blair.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nora Shannon Garland Alley, his son Jack (Chip) Bell Alley Jr (Jane) of Clayton and his daughters Lisa Sowell (Neil) of Senoia, Georgia, Lynn Hickox (Rod) of Clayton and Liz Alley of Newnan, Georgia. Jack has fourteen grandchildren; Jarrad Alley, Jessica Alley, Nicole Bearden, Joshua Alley, Waylon Buchannan, Brooks Sowell, Chelsea Blankinship, Shannon Fortner, Nadia Granger, Bree Hickox, Tucker Hickox, Hannah Raine Hickox, Cydney L’Hoste and Alley Mejia. He has seventeen great-grandchildren.
Jack grew up in Wiley, Georgia and graduated from Lakemont High School. After graduation he enlisted in the army where he proudly fought in the Korean war. Upon his release from the army, he moved back to Wiley where he was employed at Hall’s Boathouse as a tour guide, which enabled him to be close to the water, where he loved to fish and swim. It was at Halls Boathouse he met Shannon and vowed that someday he would marry her. Jack and Shannon were married on March 30, 1957 and made their home in Tiger. Jack was Mayor of Tiger from 1991-95 and was instrumental in city planning in the form of new sidewalks and citywide water and sewer hookups. He was also a member of The American Legion Post 220 in Clayton, where he served several years as Commander. Jack was a member of Tiger Baptist Church. In his free time, Jack loved to work in his garden and cook.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home April 24, 2021 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home with
Rev. Tim Hunnicutt officiating. Interment will follow in Tiger Cemetery with military honors being presented.
