Marion L. McClure, 77, of Dawsonville passed away Friday April 9, 2021 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born June 5, 1943, Marion had been a resident of Dawsonville for over 30 years. He was raised in Kennesaw and had also previously resided in Ellijay. A CB radio operator for many years, his radio handle was “Brass Monkey”. Marion was an entrepreneur his entire life and had worked many jobs through the years such as a wedding photographer, delivering oxygen to medical patients, grading and demolition, and working as a janitor at Pine Mountain Middle School in Kennesaw where he was affectionately known as “Smiley”. He is preceded in death by his parents, Syv and Alice McClure, sister, Sarah Pitts and brother, M.J. McClure.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Joan McClure of Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Edward Duran of Dawsonville, Kyja and Darrell Deavers of Cartersville, Sharon and Eric Creviston of Cartersville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Linda McClure of Adairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Gerald “Cricket” Hopper of Marietta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rozell and Joyce McClure of Florida, James and Janice McClure of Alabama, Jackie and Marlene McClure of Lindale, GA; 9 grandsons; 5 granddaughters; 5 great-granddaughters; 1 great-grandson; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family is planning private memorial services.
