Lawrence Sanford Patton died on Wednesday, March 24 at the age of 90. He was the son of Llewelyn and Vivian Patton and grew up in Banks and Jackson counties.
He met the love of his life, Peggy Epps, and they were soon married and settled in Gainesville to raise their family. They remained married for 68 years until her death in August of 2020. Peggy spent the last 8 years of her life in assisted living and then a nursing home and Lawrence visited her every single day no matter what. He sat by her side, holding her hand, wanting to make sure she was not alone. His love for her was unfailing. He was a very humble and kind man with a servant’s heart who was always willing to help others any way that he could. He would mow the grass of people that he knew might need help and did this frequently even when he was in his 80’s.
Mr. Patton served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve for 25 years. He took part in a mission trip to Zimbabwe with fellow church members to help build a church there. He was very involved with his church at Corinth Baptist for many years before becoming a charter member of Northlake Baptist where he was a dedicated choir member and worked diligently at the church food pantry. He took pride in being a part of this ministry. He even went so far as to deliver food to those who needed it and could not pick it up. He was truly a dedicated servant of the Lord and lived a life of example. He was always there to help anyone in need and never expecting recognition or anything in return.
His survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Daniel Osborne, daughter, Susan Loggins; sister in laws, Pat Hughes, Bette Anne Epps, Jeannie Epps; grandchildren, Kasey Smith, Kirk Smith (Kayla), Chad Loggins, Courtney Roberson (Jason), Jared Osborne (Brandy), Justin Osborne (Heather), Jennifer Jamison (Micheal), Kyle Smith; great grandchildren, Noah Roberson, Jonah Roberson, Anderson Osborne, William Osborne, Samantha Jamison, Millie Jamison, John Micheal Jamison, Axel Smith and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Peggy, and his daughter Kim Smith.
Mr. Patton leaves a legacy of kindness and unconditional love for his family and friends and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
