Howard Douglas Wood

Mr. Howard Douglas Wood, 89, of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Sandra Skinner will officiate. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Born on June 9, 1931 in Talmo, he was the son of the late Fred and Bessie Tarpley Wood. He was retired from H&R Mechanical where he was an HVAC Technician. Mr. Wood was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marlowe Wood; brothers, Shannon Wood, Robert Wood and sister, Hazel Sims.

Mr. Wood is survived by his daughter and son in law, Amy and Ted Simmons of Clermont; son, Mark Wood of West Deptford, NJ; sisters, Sarah Chandler of Winder, Betty Segars of Winder; granddaughter, Amanda Athens of Braselton; grandson, Drew Athens of Gainesville; granddaughters, Shaina Wood of Philadelphia, PA, Niija Wood of Philadelphia, PA, Neely Simmons of Satsuma, FL; great-granddaughters, Emma Roberts of Braselton, Addison Roberts of Braselton; great-grandson, Ethan Athens of Cartersville; great-granddaughters, Annabelle Athens of Cartersville, Xaira Simmons-Brandt of Satsuma, FL; great-grandson, Toby Simmons-Brandt of Satsuma, FL and a number of other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the South Hall Community Food Bank 4315 Allen Street, Oakwood, GA 30566.
