Larry Deaton Scott

Mr. Larry Deaton Scott, age 92, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia following a period of declining health.

Larry was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia where he attended Capital Avenue Baptist Church and dedicated his life to the Lord at age nine. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school at age 17 and went on to graduate college from Emory University in Atlanta. Larry married his love Mary Ann Bishop (Scott) and they were married 46 years until her death in 1999. Larry had lived in Dahlonega for the past 32 years following his retirement from the State of Georgia. Mr. Scott was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church, on the Board of the Lumpkin County Historical Society, and a dedicated member of the community. Throughout the years, he was awarded for his service but always remained a humble servant. Larry was a gifted storyteller, he loved to participate in “Old Fashioned Day” and other events at the local schools. His legacy will live on through those stories.

Survivors include his daughters, Carol Scott of Kennesaw, Nan Young (Dan) of Woodstock, and Laura Parker (Keith) of Dawsonville; his grandchildren, Katie Parker of Dahlonega, Scott Parker of Dawsonville, Sam Young of Sewanee, TN, and Mary Ann Young of Woodstock; and several other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A private family funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Dahlonega Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Hutcheson and Rev. Steven Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Dahlonega Historical Society, Community Helping Place, or Dahlonega Baptist's Side by Side program.
