Rev. Silas Hix

Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 9, 2021

Rev. Silas Hix age 85 of Alto passed away Tuesday March 9, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Silas was born December 31, 1935 in Gainesville to the late Tom & Clara Loggins Hix. Silas worked in several different occupations. He was a logger and carpenter, but something that was dear to him is when he could preach the Gospel. He was a lay preacher, preaching at several different churches in the area until his health began to decline. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Loggins Hix; son, Wayne lester Hix; daughter, JoAnn Hix Wade; brothers, Guy Hix, Rev. Woodrow Hix, Paul Hix & Cohen Hix; sisters, Mazella Hix Martin; sister in law, Inez Loggins Hix.

Survivors include, son, Randy (Tonya) Hix; grandchildren, Mark (Meghan) Wade, Clara Hix & Katie Hix; great grandchildren, Cody & Karsen Wade, Erin & Hallie Chesnut; great great grandchild, Lilah  Graylynn McKay; brother, J.C. (Glenda) Hix; sister, Dorothy (Dorsey) Haynes; sisters in law, Linda Hix & Annette Hix; a host of other relatives also survive. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday March 12, 2021 at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Alto with Rev. Lamar Kastner & Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He will lie in state from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the church for anyone who can’t come to the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.
