Helen Kitchens

Mrs. Helen Kitchens, age 90, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. 

Helen Jackson Kitchens was born at home in Macon, GA on a snowy January day. At age 18, she went to work for the telephone company at a time when operators manually connected calls for people. A few years later she went to work for Warner Robins Airforce Base prior to starting a family. In 1963 the family moved to Decatur, GA where they lived for 35 years. At age 54, after raising her children, Helen began working for the Cable Company. After a few years she took a job at the Centers for Disease Control.

In 2001 Helen and her husband Jerome moved to the mountains making Dahlonega, GA their home. Helen was widowed after 64 years of marriage to her beloved husband Jerome. They had three children, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and more friends than can be counted. Helen loved her home, and nothing delighted her more than working in the yard and planting flowers in the hot sunshine with a strong cup of black coffee in her hand! Her hard work kept her going strong for 90 years. She was a godly woman and a member of Friendship Baptist Church and loved everyone she met. If you ever met her, she would give you a big hug and tell you that she loved you and invite you to come see her. She had a heart of gold and was a ray of sunshine and spread happiness and love everywhere she went. When God made this woman, He threw away the mold because there has never been or ever will be another like her.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Jerome, Jr. and Connie Kitchens, Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law La Shon and Warren Butler, Canton; son Jody Kitchens, Forsyth; sister Gloria Justus, Macon; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 PM Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church. The Rev. Dalton DeLozier, the Rev. Lance Fuller and the Rev. Jim Holmes will officiate. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the funeral home.
