Clara Crow Crumley Shumake was a devoted mother and mother-in-love and phenomenal grandmother/great-grandmother. She loved her family and friends and “held on to dear life” in order to stay with us as long as she could. On March 8th, 13 days before her 85th birthday, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called her home.
Clara was born in Forsyth County, and a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Clara was a survivor of Gainesville’s, 1973 tornado that destroyed her home and put her in the hospital. However, she never stopped loving life, finding joy in being with others or using that quick wit of hers to tease anyone she met. She also loved to cook her delicious meals for friends and family. If you knew her, you loved her.
Clara is survived by her son and daughter-in-love, Doug and Melanie Crumley; Grandchildren: Casey (Lex) Goff; Matthew (Whitney) Shumake; Whitney (Andy) Mote; Rebecca (Daniel) Mendez; Greatgrandchildren: Nolan, Rylin, Paxton and Hartlyn Goff; Jace and Avery Shumake; Jordan Mote; Aubrey, Elizabeth, Jaxton and Catalina Mendez; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Her family and many, many friends will miss her terribly. If we could only love others as she loved us!!!
Visitation will be Friday March 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Saturday March 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Stacy Phillips officiating.
