Walter Calhoun Pope, Jr.

Walter Calhoun Pope, Jr. beloved patriarch of his family and faithful servant of Christ, passed away on February 26, 2021.

Walter was born to Walter Calhoun Pope, Sr and Mary Lou (Henderson) Pope on January 3, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia. His older sister Betty Pope Butterworth was his only sibling.

A graduate of Murphy HS class of 1955, Walter also attended Auburn University briefly before continuing on to a long and very successful career in sales of school, library, laboratory and stadium equipment.

Walter’s most significant accomplishments, by far, is as husband, of Mary Forrester Pope, for 62 amazing years…

Father of Vicki Pope Dickson, Conni Pope Atkinson and Michael Alan Pope…

Grandfather of Whitney Alyssa Parker, Brantley Pierce Kerns, David “Bo” Dickson, Jamie Mikael Dickson, Sheree Nicole Atkinson, Taylor Renee Atkinson, Michael Hunter Pope and Ivie Grace Bradberry…

And Great Grandfather of Mikayla Jayne Kerns, Becket Bo Kerns, Millie Bo Parker and soon to be son of Hunter Pope.

Walter was a permanent fixture for many years at Hamilton Mill Christian Church as founding member and joyful Greeter every Sunday morning. He continued his career as Greeter more recently at Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson GA.

A Memorial Service will be held in Walter’s honor at Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson, GA on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
