Herbert A. Shaffer

Herbert A. Shaffer, 88, of Lawrenceville, GA, died Monday, February 22, 2021. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Dr. Frank Cox will officiate, with comments by family members. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Friday, February 26, 2021 from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to North Metro Baptist Church or the Wounded Warrior Project, in memory of Herbert. Herbert is survived by his wife, Sara Shaffer, Lawrenceville; children, Carmen Collins (Andy), Lawrenceville, Sheryl Evatt (Don), Suwanee; grandchildren, Matthew Collins, Laura Collins, Daniel Evatt (Katie), Stephen Evatt. Herbert was born in Denver, Colorado and moved to Georgia in 1972. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He retired with 20 years of service with the Marines, earning a Purple Heart from his service in Korea. Herbert was a member of the John Mohr MacKintosh Pipe Band, a member of North Metro Baptist Church, and retired from the Georgia Department of Labor after 25 years.
