Mr. Charles "Ray" Williams, age 71 of Buford, GA passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Geneva Brooks Williams; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nuel and Lester Melton; and brother-in-law, David McMillian. Ray is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Donna Melton Williams, Buford, GA; three sons, Kevin and Kristy Williams, Buford, GA, Chad and Kim Williams, Dacula, GA, Dustin and Natalie Williams, Buford, GA; seven grandchildren, Ashleigh Williams, Caleb Williams, Hailey Williams, Kenzie Williams, Peyton Williams, Sydney Williams, and Sadie Williams; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Robert Gaddis, South Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Becky Williams, Hoschton, GA; sisters-in-law, Dianne McMillian, Gillsville, GA and Cheryl and Kenny Hall, Gillsville, GA; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Ray was born May 6th, 1949 in Athens, GA. He was a graduate of North Gwinnett High School class of 1967. He went to Atlanta Technical School for 4 years to become a journeyman carpenter. Ray worked at General Motors in Doraville as a carpenter where he retired after 30 years. Before that he worked in construction throughout the Southeast.

Ray enjoyed life and spending lots of time with all his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and building things from cabinets to hotrods with his sons. Ray and Donna enjoyed life by spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Ivy Creek Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday school class. He loved his church and Sunday school class. Ray was a member of Fishers of Men Tournament Trail where he enjoyed tournament fishing with family and friends. He was also a member of American Street Rodders and Classic Auto Rides where he enjoyed hanging out with friends and family in the hotrod community. So if you couldn't find him on a boat or at a car show with his sons, you were sure to find him in the shop at their house building something with them.

Ray was a recipient of a lung transplant in 2017 from Duke University Hospital and he was so eternally grateful and was always thankful for the donor.

Ray was a giving man and was always ready to help someone in need which he constantly instilled in his sons and family. The family will have a celebration of life service for Ray on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Ivy Creek Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member, at 2:00  in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Donna Williams, 2713 Gravel Springs Road, Buford, GA 30519 to help cover medical expenses of Ray Williams.

The service will be officiated by Dr. Craig Dale and Pastor Ted Williams. Mrs. Doris Hughes will be singing, as Ray loved hearing her singing at Ivy Creek.
