Melvin Virgil Jackson, age 84 of Gainesville, Ga passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
Melvin was born September 24, 1936 in Delta Colorado to the late Buford and Esther Jackson.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Daughter Melinda G. Jackson and Sister Lois Market. He resided in Gainesville after serving in the US Army from 1958-1962. He was a self-employed Contractor and brick mason of Melvin Jackson Construction. He was a Deacon & Trustee of New Bridge Baptist Church, where he loved working in the Meditation Garden that he so lovingly built and served in, along with assisting with the rebuilding of the new sanctuary.
Family members include his loving wife of 62 years Hazel M. Jackson, daughters Melvenia Wilson of Gainesville, Holly Smith of Gainesville and Son Kenneth (Paddie) Jackson of Eastanollee; Brother Wayne (Judy) Jackson of Fort Worth, TX Sister Mildred Fester of West Chester, PA; Grandchildren Miranda (Michael) Parris of Cleveland, Tiffany (Chad) Wehunt of Gainesville, Karen (David) Hoffer of Gainesville, Matthew Jackson of Albany and Dustin (Jessica) of Dawsonville; 8 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends that he loved so much.
Visitation will be Friday February 12, 2021 from 6-8 at Memorial Park North Riverside
Service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 3:30 at New Bridge Baptist Church, with Pastor Milton Harris and Rev. Kenneth Jackson officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Dustin Smith, Matthew Jackson, Chad Wehunt, David Hoffer, Michael Parris & Terry Gaddy. Honorary Pallbearers Lincoln Porter, Bob Owens, Billy Blocker, Eric Nichols, Donald Harris, David Stover Johnny Cain, Jimmy Cain, Stan Smith and Larry Haynes.
Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm Saturday at New Bridge Baptist Church.
