Jean Cobucci

Obituary Date: Friday, February 5, 2021

“Jean would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call....a sort of an offer you can’t refuse....for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with her loving husband Danny and her daughter Elizabeth among other family and friends that she has not seen in a long time. Job security is 110 percent guaranteed.

Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, snorkeling on the beach collecting sea shells and reading to her heart’s content.  Jean’s new office overlooks a clay tennis court open 24 hours. Lots of Judge Judy programs, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious, consisting mostly of chocolate and sweet tea from which she’ll never gain an ounce.

Jean has left detailed instructions for her children, grandchildren, family and friends to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed. She’s requested her send off culminate in everyone enjoying an ice cream cone in her honor. “

Jean leaves behind a large family that includes son Danny Cobucci and his wife Sue Cobucci of Cumming GA, son Steven Cobucci of Pensacola FL, son Robert Cobucci of Dunwoody GA, and son Joseph Cobucci and husband Art Hernandez of Braselton GA.

Her Grandchildren include granddaughter Heather Smith and her husband Andrew Smith of Cumming GA, grandson Jeffrey Cobucci and his wife Tessa Cobucci of Cumming GA, grandson Adam Kaplan of Aurora Colorado, grandson Troy Cobucci of San Francisco California and granddaughter Amelia Phifer and her husband Aaron Phifer of Norfolk Va.  Her legacy also lives on in 6 adorable great grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Danny Cobucci, Sr and her daughter Elizabeth Cobucci Kaplan.

Jean was born in Staten Island New York in 1931 to parents Margaret Gorman and John Speckin. Her childhood was full of fun and laughter with her older brother Harold Speckin and younger sister JeanClair Speckin. In 1956, Jean wed Daniel Cobucci and after growing their family, they eventually settled in Dunwoody GA.  As a housewife, Jean enjoyed reading multiple books a day and excelled in ALTA tennis that led to 9 city championships.

Upon the death of her beloved husband, Jean moved in with her youngest son Joseph in Braselton GA. Her retirement was filled with multiple pastimes that included watching her favorite TV programs Judge Judy, Blue Bloods and the Tennis Channel.  She found comfort in the company of her cat Peaches and multiple “fur" grandchildren.

Services for Jean will include visitation at McDonald & Son Funeral Home in Cumming GA on Monday February 8th from 5-8pm.  Church Services will be at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody GA on Tuesday at 11:00am followed by graveside services at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs.

As an homage to her proud Irish heritage, Jean will be laid to rest in an emerald green casket.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made in Jeans honor to the Franciscan Friars at https://franciscanfriarsloretto.org/
