James Donald Parks

Mr. James Donald Parks, 95, of Gainesville passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 following an extended illness.  James was a lifelong resident of Hall county.  He worked in the textile industry for 48 years, retiring from Chicopee Manufacturing Company (Johnson &Johnson).  He attended Morning Side Baptist Church.

Born on September 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Willie and Bell Gilmer Parks. His paternal grandparents were David “Harrison” and Sarah Jane Epps Parks and his maternal grandparents were Andrew “Bigham” and Indiana Buffington Gilmer.  In addition, he is preceded in death by his wife Annie Belle Parks, three brothers, Billie, Robert, Gordon, two sisters Peggy Jean, Addie Bell Mayfield, and son in law Billy Skelton, Sr.

Mr. Parks is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Skelton and Harrold Morrison of Gainesville; sons and daugthers in law, Donald and Carolyn Parks, Gerald and Kathy Parks, Johnny and Valorie Parks all of Gainesville.  Grandchildren, Billy Skelton, Jr., David Skelton, Michelle and Vince Coker, Eddie and Angie Parks, Greg Parks, Trent Parks; 9 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; sister, Mozelle Brady of Gainesville and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Chaplain Susan Collins officiating. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Due to Covid-19, the family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

The family of Mr. Parks wants to thank the staff of The Oaks Limestone and the staff of Pruitt Health Hospice for their loving care and affection.
