Mr. Joe Don Hunter age 89 of Riverside, California passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021 in Gainesville, Georgia.
Joe Don was born on May 16, 1931 in Jefferson, Georgia. Before moving back to his home state of Georgia, Joe lived in Riverside, California for over 65 years. Joe was born to the union of the late Esau and Ruthie Gatheright-Hunter. As a teenager the family and Joe was introduced to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC. Joe was preceded by his parents Esau and Ruthie Hunter; two brothers: Buck Hunter, Hoyt Hunter; seven sisters: Mrs. Laurie Cunningham, Mrs. Ollie B. Rutledge, Mrs. Almira Gibson, Mrs. Sarah Ruth Thompson, Ms. Irene Hunter, Ms. Arlene Hunter, Mrs. Mary Watkins. Joe never had any children he fathered but there was a lot of children in his life he helped raise. The children affectionately called him Dad, Pops, Joe, Grandpa, Friend, and UNCLE.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren he helped raise from Las Vegas, Nevada, Riverside, California, to Houston, Texas, many friends, a cousin Mr. William "Wit" Strickland of Thomasville, NC, a host of nephews, nieces, great and great-great nieces, nephews from across the globe.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Wimberly Funeral Home between the hours of 12:00 PM- 8:00 PM. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Thomasville North Carolina Old City Cemetery, 205 Memorial Park Dr., Thomasville, NC at 11:00 AM.
