Emory West Dunahoo Sr.

Obituary Date: Tuesday, January 26, 2021

Mr. Emory West Dunahoo, Sr., passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Winder, Georgia at the Dunahoo home place on December 21, 1932 to his parent, Emory Scott Dunahoo and Nettie Kate West Dunahoo. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1950. He also served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. Emory is proceeded in death, by his parents and sister, Yvonne Dunahoo Moye.

He worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company as a cable repairman and retired with 32 years of service. He loved his job. He was the operator of the first bucket truck in Gainesville, GA.

Emory was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed doing these hobbies with his sons, son-in-law and grandsons. He also holds the Lake Lanier record largemouth bass caught on December 19, 1965 weighing 17 lbs., 9 oz. He especially loved turkey hunting and enjoyed collecting turkey box calls. Emory was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Moye Dunahoo. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Bobby Aikens; son and daughter-in-law Emory W. Dunahoo Jr. and Elaine Mills Dunahoo; son, Joey Dunahoo, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Georgeann Cowley Dunahoo: eleven grandchildren, Danielle Aikens- Holland (Justin); Jeremy Dunahoo; Whit Aikens (Nikki); Robby Dunahoo, Lindsey Dunahoo Smith (Jimmy); Megan Dunahoo Brownlee (Seth); Jessica Dunahoo Smith (Jason); Josh Dunahoo (Holly); Anna Kate Dunahoo; Chase Dunahoo (Amber); Olivia Dunahoo; 20 great-grandchildren, April Dunahoo, Camden Dunahoo, Layne Dunahoo, Reagan Smith, Connor Smith, Reid Dunahoo, Isabella Holland, Wilder Holland, Lyra Aikens, Lily Aikens, Harleigh Smith, Maverick Smith, Levi Brownlee, Selah Brownlee, Rebekah Brownlee, Kai Dunahoo, Haven Dunahoo, Brye Dunahoo.

Visitation is from 4:00pm- 8:00pm on Wednesday January 27th and the funeral will be Thursday, January 28th at 10:30am at Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside Chapel. Flowers are appreciated. Donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
