Jeanette Wheeler

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 24, 2021

Jeanette Wheeler, 87, of Gainesville, GA went home to the Lord January 24, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Jeanette was married to Bill Wheeler, Jr. in August 1952 in Laconia, NH. From NH they moved to Franklin, KY, back to NH, followed by Princeton, IN and then to Marion, KY. Bill was transferred to Gainesville, GA by Potter and Brumfield in 1966. Gainesville, GA has been their home ever since. They loved watching the Braves together, cheering them on through the years. They loved watching the changing seasons, peaches from Echols Orchard, and deer wandering through their yard. Yes, GA was their home!

Jeanette was born in Laconia, NH to Reginald and Katie Cayes in 1933. Jeanette had a rocky start with health issues but didn’t let it hold her back. She was captain of her high school and college basketball team. Sadly, none of her daughters followed in her footsteps.  They joke that none of them were as coordinated as their mother.

Jeanette was employed by Potter and Brumfield until they transferred operations to Mexico. She later went to Aerovox, finally going to Makita until her retirement.

Jeanette is survived by husband Bill Wheeler, Jr., son Bill Wheeler of Lawrenceville, GA, daughter Lorraine (Ricky) Veal of Hereford, AZ, son John (Angie) Wheeler of Summerdale, AL, and daughters Sharon (Mike) Forney of Gainesville, GA, Gail (Lamar) Jones of Flowery Branch, GA, and Jean (Jeff) Thomas of Ellijay, GA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Jeanette was always thinking of others. Would a neighbor like some slices of fresh banana loaf? She was a wonderful cook and even “tricked” a future son-in-law into marrying a daughter by saying donuts were made by the daughter. This goes to her special sense of humor. No joke was too corny; she loved them all. She was kind and loving with her husband, children and grandchildren. They all have special memories of her sage advice about baking, marriage, cleaning tips and reminders. She could really get her point across with a well-placed hint. She had a sharp mind and was not afraid of technology. She had a lifelong love of learning. One of her favorite hobbies was puzzle making. There was always a puzzle in progress on her hobby table. She attacked a puzzle with the precision of a military operation. We will miss her!

A private, family only service will be held on at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family suggests that people make donations in her memory send them to their church or favorite charity, in lieu of sending flowers.
