Mrs. Kathleen Aaron Edwards peacefully passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on the morning of January 24, 2021 at The Phoenix at Lake Lanier.
Kathleen was born on September 18, 1919 in Danielsville, Georgia. She was the fifth daughter of Thomas Daniel Aaron and Bessie Brown Aaron of Royston, GA. She grew up in Royston and graduated as the Royston High School Salutatorian in the spring of 1937. Immediately after graduation, she boarded a train to Chattanooga, TN to attend Edmondson School of Business. Following her graduation in October 1937, she began a career in stenography and secretarial administration that would span more than 60 years. Kathleen married William Samuel "Sam" Edwards in 1943, shortly before his conscription into World War II. Upon his return from war, they began their life together; first in Rome, GA, then moving to Gainesville, GA in 1961. She joined Home Federal Savings and Loan Association (acquired by SunTrust Bank, now Truist) where she worked for 30 years. She also served as a vital part of a closely held family corporation for over 60 years. Kathleen was a member of First Baptist Church who deeply valued her time with the Winsome Sunday School class. She was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, and NASCAR.
Kathleen’s husband Sam died in 1995 after 52 years of marriage. She was pre-deceased by her siblings Sue Wright, Lucy A. Gilbert, Callie A. Martin, Alice A. Strickland and Thomas Daniel Aaron, Jr. She is survived by her three sons: Bill Edwards (Genie) of Thomasville, GA, Gene Edwards (Cindy) of Gainesville, GA, and Tim Edwards (Hillary) of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren: Jennifer Edwards (Micah Goldfus) of Maplewood, NJ, Katherine and Will Edwards of Gainesville, GA, Paige Edwards of Washington, DC, and Sam Edwards of Savannah, GA; two great-grandchildren: Harper Goldfus and Ellis Goldfus.
