Mrs. Peggy Henderson Dover, age 88, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
Peggy was born in Forsyth County, GA on August 9, 1932, the daughter of Myrtie and Alexander Berry “A.B.” Henderson, the youngest of four brothers and a sister. She grew up on an industrious family farm with a blacksmith shop, a corn mill, and a country store where folks came to talk and trade in an area where winding dirt roads led through places with illuminative names like “Shady Grove” and “Pilgrim Mill” and “Beaver Ruin”.
In the early sixties, Peggy made Dahlonega her home and for decades was a faithful member of Dahlonega Baptist Church and for as long as she was able, a member of the choir, where each Sunday she looked forward to harmonizing in song and grace.
She was blessed to enjoy a bit of time and travel in her years, from the Alps of Austria to the Promised Lands of Israel and back across to the black sands of the Big Island of Hawaii.
She retired as a staff member from North Georgia College (now UNG) where she was always proud to have served to further a higher education and opportunity for others.
Solace and reward she found in her own backyard where flowers and shrubs, both planted and wild, thrived and bloomed in cultivation and care and where wildlife loved to come frolic and visit.
Ballroom and square dancing always brought her delight, where even in later years she stayed light on her feet with a tinge of ardent color in her cheeks and laughter in her voice.
On January 19, 2021, at age 88, Peggy crossed over to return to the lands of her youth, to lie within the sandy loams at Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Her surviving family includes son and daughter-in-law Vic and Melissa Dover; grandchildren Micaela (Steven) Pamplin, and Camden Dover; great-granddaughter Maeven Pamplin; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held.
