Obituary Date: Saturday, January 16, 2021

Margie Nell Savage

Born in Clermont, Georgia on September 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Claude and Eula Farmer, Margie Nell Savage passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family on January 16, 2021 at the age of 93.

Margie was preceded in death by her always loving husband of seventy years, Harvey Howard Savage. Although she dealt with dementia for a number of years, his name was never forgotten by her. There was a joyous reunion in heaven early that January morning. Margie Nell was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

She made a wonderful life for her family in the foothills of north Georgia. There was always work to be done during her lifetime, and she never shied away from it. She took pride in her hard work, and missed it when she could no longer work tireless days. As a child of the Great Depression, she knew the value of putting in a hard day’s work. During cotton picking time, she could out pick everyone around by picking up to 300 pounds of cotton a day. Everyone in the community sought her help come harvest time. Up until the last few years of her life, she and Howard and their family grew a big garden every summer. She canned and froze everything she could get her hands on. They raised cattle, chickens and pigs. There was always something good to eat on her table. She often said that her family never went a day hungry, and she was thankful for that. She always had plenty of good food for her family, often preparing large meals on Sundays even for her extended family.

Margie Nell always enjoyed working with her hands. She had beautiful flowers in her yard. In the winter she sewed and made lots of beautiful quilts. She was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandma, great-grandma and neighbor. She was the family caregiver, taking care of her loved ones when there was a need. She loved having a house full of kids around her. She was a huge blessing to not only her children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she spent countless hours looking after every single one of them. She passed much of her lifestyle down to her family by being involved daily with them.

Margie Nell was preceded in death by her parents and husband and also two beloved children, Timothy Scott Savage and Andrea Lynn Savage. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Casper “Buck” Farmer, Claudine Forrester, Ruby Farmer, Jeanette “Pud” Farmer, Vaughn Farmer and Benny Farmer. This beloved woman leaves behind her children and their spouses Kenneth and Janie Savage, Carol Savage Hulsey, Tommy Savage, and Amy and Ryan Grissom, her five grandchildren, her six great-grandchildren, her brother Rodney Farmer, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Scott Strickland will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be placed with Gateway Health and Rehab or Pruitt Health Hospice in her memory. Due to the recent local outbreak of COVID, please adhere to social distancing. Funeral arrangements are being handled by W.R. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home of Clermont, Georgia.
