Jan Cecilia Gerbrach Szyperski

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 13, 2021

Jan Cecilia Gerbrach Szyperski, 88 years young of Atlanta, Georgia passed away January 13, 2021 of natural causes.  

The funeral mass will be held at 1pm on Friday January 15, 2021 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church.  Father Matt Dalryrmple of St Luke’s Catholic Church will be officiating. A visitation will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home on Friday January 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.to 12:30 p.m.  Internment will be held on Saturday January 16, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA.

Jan was born in Ames, IA on October 19, 1932.  She graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Ames, IA and continued on and received an Associates Degree at Drake University.

Jan was married to her long-time sweetheart Richard Szyperski on 11/12/1955.  They were married 62 years prior to Richard’s death.

Jan was a loving wife, mother and homemaker who also worked at Singer as an executive assistant, but primarily she took care of the couples 6 children.  She was always their biggest fan whether at a sporting event or concert.  She was an excellent listener with a positive attitude which she instilled in her children.  She was an active member of Roswell Ramblers Club.  She loved to travel, took several cruises and traveled with her husband and children all over the U.S. and Europe.

Jan is survived by her children, Richard J., Lynn & Greg Short, Cathy & James Thrash, Terry & Mark Webb, Mike & Sarah Szyperski and Mary & Ron Rummell.  Jan is also survived by her grandchildren Kenneth Webb, Christopher & Courtney Short, John & Laurel Webb, Melissa & Danny Ryerson, Brian & Jennifer Short, Melanie Szyperski, Christen & Jacob Pittman, Kelli Thrash, Jamie & Austin Sale, Zachery Webb and Charlie Szyperski.  Jan also blessed with 5 great grandchildren, Nathan Webb, Aidyn Short, Tensly Webb, RilynWebb, and Remi Webb.

Jan is preceded in death by her son Thomas, her husband Richard Thomas, daughter-in-law Gayle Szyperski and her parents Joe & Mildred Gerbrach and mother Jennie Patterson Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Friends of Roswell Parks in memory of Jan G. Szyperski.  Donations can be sent to Friends of Roswell Parks P.O. Box 1612 Roswell, GA   30077.  The family of Jan G. Szyperski wishes to thank St. Luke’s Catholic Church where she attended throughout the last 28 years.
