On Monday, January 11, 2021, Roy Douglas Barnett of Cumming, Georgia, loving husband, devoted father, and Papaw went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 83. Roy was the son of the late Curt Barnett and the late Mary Profitt Barnett of Frankfort, Kentucky. Roy was born January 15, 1937 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, the baby of five children. Roy married Eleanor Jane Sanderson Barnett on March 26, 1955 and they had three children together, Janie Carol Burnette, Peggy Sue Blankenship, and Roy Douglas Barnett II. Roy was a devoted Christian man, Deacon and shared his love for the Lord with all those around him. He was instrumental in developing Sunday Schools and many other religious programs to share God’s word. Roy enjoyed attending church, fishing and spending time with his family. Roy will be remembered for his loving nature, knowledge of God’s word, sense of humor and contagious smile.
In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his siblings, Harold Barnett, Carold Barnett, Tressie Choate, and son-in-law, Gary Burnette. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Jane Barnett, and his children, Janie Carol Burnette, Peggy Sue Blankenship, and Roy Douglas Barnett II; daughter-in-law, Lesa Watson Barnett; and sister, Erma Cook. Roy is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Allen and JoAnna Robinson, Amanda and Robert Whitten and children, Sarah Stonecipher and children, Jacob and Alex Barnett, Haleigh and Andrew Warbington, and Zachary Barnett. Roy leaves behind many other extended relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday the hour prior to the service.
