Jean Powell Gilreath, 83, of Dawsonville passed away suddenly on Sunday January 3, 2021.
Born October 29, 1937 to the late Claude and Lois Powell, she was a native of Dawson County. She lived a number of years in Crossville and Somerville, TN before returning to Dawsonville 4 years ago. For several years she took care of foster children and she enjoyed cooking and baking. Wherever she lived, she was very devoted to her church. Jean was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lloyd James Gilreath; grandson, Christopher Gilreath; and brothers, Arnold Powell, Frank Powell and Dwight Powell.
Surviving are her daughters and son in law, Dena and Clay Duncan, Dawsonville, Michelle Gilreath, Dawsonville; sons and daughters in law, Chris Gilreath, Somerville, TN, Greg and Nancy Gilreath, Dawsonville, Leslie and Jennifer Gilreath, Covington; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters and brother in law, Carolyn Bruce, Dawsonville, Linda Powell, Dahlonega, Melody and Gerald Ballew, Talking Rock; brothers, Ronnie Powell, Jackson, GA, Gary Powell, Dawsonville; sisters in law, Mae Powell, Dawsonville, Delorice Powell, Dahlonega; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday January 7, 2021 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Russell Burt and Rev. James Kanady will officiate. Interment will follow in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.
