Betty Johnson Doss, 80, of Dawsonville passed away, Saturday, January 2, 2021 following a period of declining health. Born October 2, 1940 to the late Alva Wright and Ennis Johnson in Tifton, GA. She resided there until her husband, W. David Doss Jr. and two children moved to Atlanta in 1967.
She lived for thirty years just north of Atlanta in Dunwoody raising their three children and working in their family hardware business. Betty was very involved in her church, Dunwoody Baptist.
Betty and David moved to Dawsonville in 1999 progressing into their retirement life. She continued to be involved in local bible studies, women’s clubs, and church activities at First Redeemer Church, Cumming, GA until her health limited her ability to participate.
Betty was devoted to her family and took great pride in her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, W. David Doss Jr., Dawsonville; children, Wade and Beth Doss, Smyrna, Beth and Denny Nix, Woodstock, Amy and Rick Atkinson, Woodstock; grandchildren, Cody and Joshua Nix,Taylor Victor, Evan and Ella Atkinson; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Alva William (Bill) & Barbara Johnson; niece, Dr. Paige Murray.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville.
The funeral service will be Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Bearden Funeral Home. Dr. Jeff Jackson and Rev. Stan Lovell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Joshua Nix, Evan Atkinson, Jim Lay, Jim McClendon, Randy Medlock, Don Driggers, Richard Lewis, and Royce Stanford.
A graveside service and interment will be held afterwards at 2:30 at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandy Springs.
