Charles James Hayes

Mr. Charles James Hayes, age 86 of Charles Hayes Road, Toccoa passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020.

A son of the late Newton and Rena Reese Hayes, he was born April 22, 1934 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life. He was retired from Coats and Clark with 39 years of service. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Mae Sewell Hayes in 2020.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Nathan Echols of Toccoa, Christine Brown of Toccoa, Anita and James Rivers of Lavonia and Trenace and Roy Ritchie of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Sheena Hayes of Toccoa; thirteen grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; six sisters, Juanita Hayes and Helen Gilbert of Toccoa, Hattie Mae Philpot of Decatur, Johnnie Mae Hayes and Maggie Mae Hayes of Toccoa and Brenda Hayes of Dawson, Georgia.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 5, 2020, 2 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with Minister Norman Giles officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from noon until the service time. Due to the health and well-being of our community, social distancing must be observed. Masks are encouraged. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Charles James Hayes.
