Lloyd H. Harben

Lloyd H. Harben, 75, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday December 31, 2020 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born June 14, 1945, Lloyd had been a resident of Dawson County his entire life.  He served as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church where he was saved over 60 years ago.  A 1964 graduate of Dawson County High School, Lloyd also earned a degree in education from the University of Georgia.  He taught agriculture at White County High School for two years until transferring to Dawson County High School in 1970.  Mr. Harben taught until 1989 when he became the Superintendent of the Dawson County School System where he served until his retirement in 1998.  After retirement he enjoyed working on his family’s farm and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Luna Harben, sister, Clara Harben Bearden, and brother, Len Joe Harben.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Jan Harben; daughters and sons in law, Laura and Bo Cox, Deedra and Chad Cofield, Heather and Drew Allen, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Rob, Andrew, Chris, Chase, Janna, Emily, Payton; sister and brother in law, Ruby Jane and Gary Bearden, Dawsonville; sisters in law and brothers in law, Arlene and Homer Cantrell, Dahlonega, Penny and John Kesting, Dawsonville, Robbie Turner, Florida; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 5, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Jason Hamby, Rev. Andy Wallace, Rev. Leonard W. Ridings and Rev. Dexter Ferguson will officiate.  Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The funeral service will be live streamed on Bearden Funeral Home’s Facebook page. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday January 4 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday January 5 from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
