Martin 'Marty' Ray Hortman

Martin "Marty" Ray Hortman, age 67, of Oakwood, GA passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

He was born July 28, 1953 in the small quite town of Doerun, GA . This small, close knit community was the building blocks for his education, imagination, his dreams, his deep love of family, country, and all things Southern. As a young man, he moved to the Atlanta area to pursue those dreams. He fell in love with Hall/Buford county and built a remarkable life and career. Due to his businesses in commercial construction, Marty traveled his beloved South from Florida to New Jersey. He knew all the local mom and pop restaurants in every small town, especially barbecue. When asked how he found all these great dives long before google, he would comment, “Follow the trucks!”
Marty loved music, all boats, and reading. He was a master jokester and could find the humor in most any situation. He was a friend to many.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife LynRae Cruse.

He is survived by 2 children, Sam (Ana) Hortman and Erin Hortman Kearney; two children in love, Lindal Lee Wray, and Kathryn Land Morgan; his grandchildren, who brought him great joy; Kate Kearney, Liam Kearney, Nolan Hortman, Brie Land, Kaidence White, Kessler Wray, Cruse Wray, and he was very excited waiting for the arrival of a new baby girl in May; two brothers, Richard (Beth)Hortman, Tim Hortman, and sister, Kim (Danny)Gleason.

A small gathering is planned at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA for Monday, January 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM, followed by his favorite, barbeque and tater salad, at a location to be determined.
