Haywood Clyde, age 88, of Gainesville, passed away Friday, December 25.
On June 29, 1932, Haywood Clyde, Sr (“Mr. Clyde”) as he was normally addressed was born. He transitions on December 25, 2020 to his eternal life.
Mr. Clyde attended Fair Street School in Gainesville, Ga. He was an avid sports fan and could normally always be found in front of tv watching games. During the 40s, he played on Gainesville Eagle Baseball team which he genuinely loved. He also loved visiting “Randolph’s Barber Shop” where he was hailed as the local “Historian” and “Sports Expert”. He was a faithful member of the Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Summit Street his entire life until failing health prevented him from attending.
He retired from Johnson and Johnson (Chicopee Textile Cotton Mill) after 25 years of service.
“Mr. Clyde” will always be remembered for his “fashionable, sharp dress attire” for Sunday church service and special events.
He was preceded in death by his father William (Bill) Clyde, Sr., Mother, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Haywood-Clyde-Johnson, Brother, William (Billy) Clyde Sr., a favorite Aunt, Mrs. Carrie Lou Washington, first wife, Mother of his Children, Joyce H. Clyde, Step-father, Newt (Pat) Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories, Wife, Ruth W. Clyde, Children, Elaine C. (Clarence) Mack, Haywood “Baby Brother” Clyde, Jr., Robain C. (Jackie) Watson, Bruce Clyde, very, very dear sister, Priscilla C. Rucker, Special Cousin, Mrs. Cleo (Perry) Williams, Seven Grandchildren, Seventeen Great Grandchildren, Four Great- Great Grandchildren, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and a host of friends.
The Visitation for Mr. Clyde will be Sunday December 3rd between the hours of 12-8 pm at Wimberly Funeral Home. There will also be a private Celebration of Life. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
