The Reverend Truitt Brawner, age 87, of Mize Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born on July 11, 1933 in Carnesville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Herman and Lula Brawner.
Truitt Brawner lived his life in Franklin and Stephens Counties. He was known for his numerous services to the community and impacted many lives. He served in the US Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his service in the army, he returned home to work and serve. He worked many jobs including Coats and Clark, School Bus driver, Acree Davis, Farmer, and was a volunteer fireman. He was a Freemason of 50 years with the Grove Masonic Lodge #652. Most notably was his service to local churches. He served as a music minister, and also pastored and lead in the building of numerous churches in our area. He served the following Baptist congregations: Hunters Creek, Broad River, Clarks Creek, Riverside, Northside, Mullins Ford and Indian Creek.
He was proceeded in death by two brothers, Robert and Wilburn Brawner and sisters Ruth Brawner Brown and Linda Brawner Sellers.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ruth Thurmond Brawner of 67 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amelia and Bill Cochran and Theresa and Ken Davis; son, Tim Brawner; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Singletary, Ryan Cochran, Alison Shelton, Heather Weckesser, Lance Brawner, Morgan Walker and Carlie Rogers; seventeen great grandchildren, Bryce, Brady, Samuel, Lilly, Olivia, Parker, Carson, Saige, Austin, Keaton, Ransom, Lily, Joel, Kelsey, Isaiah, Brantley and Hudson, brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Edna Brawner of Toccoa, sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Crowder of Lavonia, Martha Brawner of Lavonia, Betty and Dan Phillips of Commerce and Mary Isom of Anderson, SC.
Visitation is at Acree Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. at Hunters Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeremy Singletary, Reverend David Ritcey, Reverend Ben Huff, Reverend Paul Jameson and Reverend Tommy Childress officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
