Rev. Eddie M. Simmons, III, 71, of Flowery Branch, passed away peacefully Monday, December 28, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Earl Pirkle, Rev. Mike Williams and Rev. Billy Shepard will officiate. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Born on August 16, 1949 in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Eddie M. Simmons, Jr. and the late Gloria Faus Simmons.  Eddie was a graduate of the University of Georgia (72) and Bulldog fan for life. The only thing he loved more than his Bulldogs were his Savior and his family. Eddie served as Minister of Music for 57 years serving at Jackson Drive Baptist Church East Point, GA; Eastside Baptist Church, Riverdale, GA; Friendship Baptist Church, Buford, GA; and Central Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA.

Eddie had a passion for international missions sharing God’s light in the Ukraine, El Salvador, Venezuela, Turkey and Tanzania. When not serving the Lord, Eddie enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and cheering on the Bulldogs, Braves and Falcons. At his death, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church attending faithfully for as long as he could. Rev. Simmons was retired from the Department of Transportation.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Phyllis Simmons of Flowery Branch; son, Chad Simmons (Arien) of Dallas, GA; daughter, Jennifer Lyon (Trey) of Locust Grove, GA; grandchildren, Gabe, Landon, Jackson, Taylor; sister, Patti Shepard of McDonald, GA; nephews, Billy Shepard ( Sarah Beth) ,Kevin Lamberth and niece Katie Shepard along with several cousins, aunts and uncles..
