Alvia Marie Cowart Allen

Alvia Marie Cowart Allen, age 87, passed away December 26,2020 at her son, Tim’s residence, while in Hospice care.  

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Theodore (Ted) Allen and her parents, Thomas Victor and Rachel Parolee Cowart. Marie was one of eight children.

She is survived by her sons, Terry Allen (Rhetha), Tim Allen (Pat) and her daughter, Tina Wehunt.  Marie had six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Marie was a member of Union Baptist Church in White County. After graduation from Nacoochee Valley High School, she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C.  Returning to Georgia, she was employed in Radiology Department at Hall County Hospital in Gainesville and as a sales associate for Saul’s Department Store in downtown Gainesville.

Once her children were grown, Marie owned and operated her own business known as Mom’s Biscuits which she ran for many years. She was a generous woman, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being around people, being outside-especially at the beach, and cooking.

Marie will be missed by her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service for immediate family is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Gainesville First United Methodist Church, Thompson Bridge Rd., Gainesville, Georgia. Please follow signage directing you to the Chapel.

Rev. Carolyn Clifton will officiate.

In respect of Covid precautions, there will not be visitation prior to service. Guests are required to wear masks and social distance. 

In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Hospice of NGMC or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Marie.
