Henry “Hank” James Hess, Jr.

Mr. Henry “Hank” James Hess, Jr., age 73, of Gainesville passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020.  Hank was a longtime resident of Hall County and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Hank is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Dianne Wade Hess; mother-in-law, Bobbie Wade; children, Sean (Kristen) Hess, Michael (Lisa) Hess, Katrina Hess (Chris) Neidlinger and Keith (Jamie) Hess; grandchildren, Sean Hess, Garrett Hess, Joshua Hess, Lauren Hess, Michael Hess, Bailey Hess, Josey Hess, Kelly Hess, and Ashley Neidlinger Griffeth; and great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace Griffeth.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry James Hess, Sr. and Alma Buckner Hess; and brother, Steven Randall Hess.

Hank was born February 8, 1947 in Allentown, Pennsylvania and spent many years as the manager of Dunaway Drugstore in Oakwood.  He realized later in life his true passion of cooking.  He left the drugstore business behind and went on to open several restaurants and catering services.  He retired in 2008 from Wrigley’s. 

Anyone that had the opportunity to eat Hank’s cooking knows that food was his true calling and passion.  The only thing that Hank loved more than cooking was the love of his life, Dianne Hess, through 43 years of marriage.  Together, Hank and Dianne raised a beautiful family that provided him with the most favorite people in his life – his grandchildren.  Hank seemed invincible to his family and will be deeply missed.
