Bishop L. Wayne Hicks

Obituary Date: Wednesday, December 23, 2020

 

Bishop L. Wayne Hicks, 74 of Gainesville passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at New Haven Congregational Holiness Church. Rev. Bobby Griffin, Rev. Ronald Wilson, Rev. Nick Dalton and Rev. Daren Hicks will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at New Haven Congregational Holiness Church on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Due to Covid-19, the family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Bishop Hicks served four different offices of the General Executive Board of the Congregational Holiness Church; with the final being Bishop of the denomination.

Bishop Hicks is preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Cullen Hicks and Margie Hicks and his great grandson, Memphis Remillard.

Bishop Hicks is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cherryl Hicks; children, Susan and Rev. Philip McQueen of Gainesville, Rev. Daren and Stacey Hicks of Flowery Branch, John Michael and Lindsey Hicks of Jefferson; grandchildren, Austin (Amber) Hicks of Braselton, Brittany and John Welch of Commerce, Logan McQueen of Gainesville, Tiffany (Jarromie) Wilkins of Hoschton, Lauren (Aaron) Remillard of Gainesville, Noah McQueen of Gainesville, Carsyn Hicks of Jefferson, Cooper Christoph of Jefferson, great grandchildren, William Welch, Ansley Welch, Hayson Welch, Cohen Welch, Paityn Welch, Jayde Wilkins; sister, Julianne (Addison) Belangia of Lincolnton; sister in law, Karen Phillips of Martinez; brothers and sisters in law, Dwaine and Pat Biggerstaff of Lincolnton, Denise and Price McWhorter of Lincolnton; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Foreign Missions Department at the Congregational Holiness Church or his daughter and son in laws ministry in Uganda, Mavuno Ministries Inc., P.O. Box 3421, Gainesville, GA 30503
