Mike Copeland

Mike Copeland, 75, of Gainesville passed away on December 18, 2020, from complications of lung cancer. He was born on August 6, 1945, in Hall County to the late Albert and Montine Copeland. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Eufaula and Wilbur Beaman.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Sunday, December 20, 2020 and 4 to 7 pm Monday, December 21, 2020 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.

Mike graduated from North Hall High School and attended Gainesville Junior College. He began a career in firefighting with the City of Gainesville that lasted for 25 years.  After climbing through the ranks, he served the last six years as Training Officer. During this time with the city he was also an instructor for the Georgia Fire Academy where he trained volunteer firefighters all over North Georgia.

After retiring, he started a concrete pumping business in Watkinsville that he ran for 12 years. For the last several years he enjoyed planning trips to Alaska, taking care of grandkids as “Grampa”, and being with family.

Survivors include: his wife, Melinda, and her children Ryan and (Lauren) Gibson, and Kendra and (Brett) Hubbard; his son Wystan and Margie Copeland, and daughter Natasha Copeland, along with their mother Ruth Copeland. Also six grandchildren, Nathanael and Jerrica Copeland, Ian and Lincoln Gibson, and Madison and Abigail Hubbard.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mike to the Lake and Effie Copeland Scholarship Fund at North Georgia Technical College and the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, or the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
