Major Thomas Malon Ballew of Buford, GA passed away December 12, 2020. He was the husband to the late Dorothy Ballew and the son of the late Horace and Texanna Page Ballew of South Carolina. Thomas was born in Inman on July 4, 1924 and was next to the youngest of 8 children. He grew up on the family peach farm and after High School he continued his studies at USC Business School. It was during this time Thomas then enlisted in the Air Force where his military career covered over 25 years serving in WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars, traveling the world then retiring from the Army. He went on with civilian life in Atlanta with his wife and 2 children. He began a career at GA State University as head of telecommunication where he retired after 25 years. Thomas was a member of the VFW, Sons of The American Revolution, The Atlanta WWII Round Table, DAV, 3 War Veterans Associations and a member of the Believers SS Class at Hebron Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Ballew Christopher, son-in-law Jon Christopher of Buford, GA, his son Glen Thomas Ballew, of Buford, GA; grandchildren Danielle Christopher Merritt, her husband Coltan Merritt of Loveland, CO, Andrea Christopher of Buford, GA, Chelsea Ballew of Tampa, FL and Garrett Ballew of Ft Lauderdale, FL; his sister Virginia Ballew Owens of Boiling Springs, SC, as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends throughout the country. His many hobbies included a passion of reading, his love of working on genealogy, photography, showing off his green thumb but summertime meant play in the sand at the beach, riding on the boat, jet ski or even tubing on back of the pontoon. He had a such a tender heart for family, a love for the Lord and he will surely be missed. Visitation will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 at 10 AM with memorial at 11 AM at Hamilton Mill Funeral Home, Buford, GA. Dr. Kenneth Lister and Phil Robertson will officiate. Interment at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, GA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your favorite charity.
