Don Stroud

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 13, 2020

Mr. Don Stroud, age 86 of Gainesville, GA, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

Don was born on November 6, 1934, in Habersham County to the late Alfred Luther Stroud and Annie Pearl Erwin Stroud. Don was affectionately known as “Papa” and “Papa Don” to his grandchildren and all the other children who were fortunate to have him in their lives. He was a very loving and outgoing person who loved to give to others, whether it was vegetables from his garden, Werther’s out of his pants pocket, or dum-dum suckers from his shirt pocket. Don’s joy for so many years has been his four grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters. They never ceased to put a smile on his face when they played in the floor in front of his chair or as they grew and played on the ball fields. For the past ten years, he faithfully cared for his wife of 52 years, Jean Stroud, as she battles Alzheimer’s. Don served in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police, and he has been an active member of the Wahoo Baptist Church in Murrayville, GA.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Westmoreland Stroud, of Gainesville, GA; daughter, Melody Stroud Duncan of Gainesville, GA; son, Mark (Amy) Stroud of Lula, GA; grandchildren, Hannah (Chris) Wallace, Haley (Brandon) Sullins, Riley Stroud, and Carter Stroud; great-granddaughters, Logan, Ellason, and Emery Wallace, and Anniston, Tenley, Havilyn, and Blake Sullins. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Luther Stroud and Annie Pearl Erwin Stroud; sisters, Myrtle Pritchett, Kathleen Stroud, Pauline Dooley; brothers, Leo, Reece, Hubert, Vernon, Bruce, Marion, Alfred, J.C., and Avery Stroud. He was also survived by numerous other brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends who he greatly loved.

The family will receive friends at Wahoo Baptist Church in Murrayville, GA, from 4:00 p.m. to  8:00 p.m on Wednesday, December 16. Funeral services will be held at Wahoo Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 17. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, GA.

Flowers will be accepted or for those who wish may make donations to Wahoo Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 314 Gainesville, GA 30503
