Hildreth Sunthimer Battles

Hildreth Sunthimer Battles passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the age of 96.  She was born March 10, 1924 in Marietta, Ohio, to Oliver Thomas Bradley and Delila Mixer Bradley.

“Hildy” was a great friend to many in the Stow, Ohio, area where she was employed as a registered nurse and active in the Cuyahoga Falls Grace Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School, played the organ and sang in the choir among many other acts of service.  Upon retirement her husband Paul and she traveled for mission projects stateside and abroad, and settled in Sebring, Florida in 1990.  There she attended Grace Brethren Church, was active in the Sun Room Senior Center and volunteered over 7,000 hours at AdventHealth. 

Paul died in 1998 after 54 years of marriage. Hildy married Lawrence E. Battles in 2010. After his passing, she moved in to Smoky Springs Retirement Living in Gainesville. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Derwin Bradley, Dorothy Sunthimer and Roberta Rexroad and her grandson David Bradley Gividen.

She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her son and daughters: James T. Sunthimer (Doris), Boppard, Germany; Paula M. Gividen (David), Indianapolis, Indiana; Cathy L. Hines (Randall), Gainesville, Georgia; and Gail E. Roso (Ernest), Kent, Ohio. Other family includes granddaughters Sonya Wise (Scott), Linda Truepschuch (Max), Indiana Nathan Gividen (Aneta), Erin Poteat (Bradley), Joshua Hines, Stephanie Hines, Steven Roso, and Michelle Canavan (Cory).  She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 Sunday, Dec. 13, at Riverbend Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Samaritan’s Purse.
